Biography

Prof. B.C. Walpola completed B.Sc. Agriculture degree with Second Class Upper Division Honours, from Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka, in 2000. Then Prof. B.C. Walpola joined the Department of Soil Science, University of Ruhuna first as Temporary Research Assistant in 2001 and then as a Probationary Lecturer in 2002. Prof. B.C. Walpola completed M.Sc. degree in Industrial and Environmental Chemistry at University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, in 2004 and Ph.D. degree in Soil Microbiology at Chungnam National University, South Korea in 2013. Prof. B.C. Walpola was promoted to the Grade of Senior Lecturer (Grade 11) in 2007, Senior Lecturer (Grade 1) in 2013 and Professor in Soil Science in 2016. One of Prof. B.C. Walpola's research interests is in the area of soil microbiology with particular emphasis on phosphate solubilizing soil microorganisms. Prof. B.C. Walpola is also interested in carbon and nitrogen mineralization pattern in soil amended with different organic amendments. Prof. B.C. Walpola has published more than 60 research publications which include books, journal articles and conference/symposium papers in the field of Agriculture and allied sciences.
