Biography

Emeritus Professor C.M. Navaratne specializes in irrigation, agroclimatology, and water resource management. Emer. Prof. C.M. Navaratne's work spans decision support systems for climate data, rainwater harvesting for crops, and agro-climatic risk assessments that guide sustainable cropping calendars and intensification strategies. Her research engagements include studies on the influence of agroclimatology on traditional rice cropping calendars, computer-based decision support for agroclimatological data analysis, rainwater harvesting systems for crop cultivation, preparation of rainfall maps for Southern Sri Lanka, agro-climatic potential and risk assessment for crop intensification in home gardens, and low-cost irrigation solutions (including auto-irrigation) for smallholder and home-garden contexts.
