Qualifications

Biography

Prof. N.S.B.M. Atapattu is the Chair Professor of Animal Science at the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. His research focuses on poultry nutrition, ammonia emissions from poultry litter, sustainability and circularity of livestock systems, and animal welfare. He holds a BSc in Agriculture with First-Class Honours from the University of Ruhuna, an MSc (First Class) in Animal Physiology from Massey University, New Zealand, and a Ph.D. from Ruhuna. He has published over 40 refereed journal articles, 55 conference papers, and 130 conference abstracts, and authored four books. Beyond research, he has mentored over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students and provided strategic leadership as Chairman of the Committee on Livestock and Poultry under the Sri Lanka Agricultural Research Policy (CARP), Advisor to the Sri Lanka Association for Animal Nutrition, Head of the Department of Animal Science, and Director of the Centre for Quality Assurance of the University. His global perspective has been enriched by prestigious fellowships, including a Fulbright Scholarship at the University of Arkansas and Commonwealth Fellowships in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
