Biography

Emer. Prof. Mangala De Zoysa is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna. With a distinguished academic career spanning several decades, Prof. De Zoysa has made extensive contributions to agroforestry, forest governance, and sustainable natural resource management in Sri Lanka and the Asia-Pacific region. His research encompasses agroforestry homegarden systems, community-based forest management, public–private partnerships in forestry, smallholder livelihoods (including rubber, tea, and woodlot farming), forest-based ecotourism, and climate change adaptation in forestry contexts. He has collaborated with researchers in Japan, the Philippines, India, and Bangladesh on REDD+, comparative natural resource governance, and social forestry. Prof. De Zoysa has published widely in international peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Sustainable Forestry , Society & Natural Resources , Small-scale Forestry , and the Open Journal of Forestry , and has contributed numerous papers to the International Forestry and Environment Symposium. He holds a PhD, MSc, and BSc in Agriculture from the University of Ruhuna.
